A Tradition of Excellence in Equestrian Sport & Care since 1984

The story behind Canterbury Farm
Canterbury Farm is a family-owned, full-service equestrian program with a rich legacy spanning more than four decades. For over 40 years, we proudly operated just outside of Chicago, building a reputation for exceptional horse care, expert instruction, and a community-centered approach that welcomed riders of every level. Today, we continue that tradition while expanding our footprint to the country’s top equestrian hubs, bringing our training and competition program to the riders and horses who call Ocala and Lexington home throughout the year.
From our earliest days hosting local lessons and barn shows to our continued success in the national ring, our mission has never wavered: to put the horse first, to develop skilled, confident riders, and to foster a barn family grounded in trust, kindness, and connection. At Canterbury Farm, we believe in nurturing the partnership between horse and rider—and in treating every client and every horse as part of our own.

Leadership
Greg Franklin serves as the head trainer at Canterbury Farm, where he brings over 30 years of experience developing competitive horses and riders in the Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation rings. His personalized, results-driven approach empowers riders with the tools, discipline, and focus needed to reach their full potential, locally, nationally, and internationally.
Greg has guided numerous horses to Horse of the Year honors in Zone Five and earned championships across the country in the hunter divisions. His expertise in equitation is equally strong, having coached a Reserve Champion in the ASPCA Maclay Midwest Regionals and qualifying horses and riders for the Pennsylvania National, Washington International, and The National Horse Show in the Junior Hunter, Amateur Owner Hunter, and Regular Working Hunter divisions.
In 2011, while training at HITS Ocala, Greg coached the Pony Equitation Circuit Champion and has also competed internationally, including 1.40m and 1.45m classes at Spruce Meadows.
In addition to his extensive training experience, Greg holds his ‘R’ judge’s card in Hunters, Hunter Seat Equitation, and Jumpers, judging competitions across the U.S. This brings a unique “judge’s eye” perspective to his training helping riders not only perform but understand what wins in the ring. His ongoing relationships with top professionals both nationally and abroad keep his program current, competitive, and connected.
